Domain Name

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I change/modify my web address?

Web address registrations are not amendable as they are registered on the internet until they expire. You may want to register a different web address that is available.

You can check if a web address is available through our website https://championweb.com.au/ and email us with the correct spelling and the number of years you wish to register for, so we can issue you a separate invoice.

Once paid, please let us know, and we will complete the registration and add it to your account.

  • Can I cancel my web address?

Web address registrations are registered on the internet until expiry and are not reversible.

We cannot 'cancel' a web address, so you can simply choose not to renew when the expiry date comes.

  • What is a web address?

A web address is a string of text that maps to a numeric IP address, used to access a website.

For instance, the web address for Google is ‘google.com’.

You can look up who owns what web address through a public database: https://whois.auda.org.au/

  • How to register an additional web address?

We can register any available web address with your ABN details.

Please email us at support@championweb.com.au with the following details:

    • the web address you wish to register
    • registration length (1 - 5 years)
    • ABN (if this has changed)

and we will send you the invoice to complete the registration.

  • What's the difference between .com.au and .au/.nz web address?

Only businesses with a valid ABN can register a .com.au domain name.

Web address extensions tell you which country a website belongs to. For example, .com.au is an Australian website.

Most customers choose to register both ".com" and ".com.au" since they are the most common address identifiers.

The new shortened version ".au" is also what the industry is moving towards registering, to make it easier for people to visit.

It is recommended that all '.com.au' web address holders also register the '.au' version.

  • Can I link my webpage to my social media account?

If you would like to link your web address to an existing social media page, please email us at support@championweb.com.au with the URL of your social media page and we'll set it up for you for free.

The website's URL is in the address bar, which is usually at the top of your web browser window. This bar may be at the bottom of the window in Chrome on some Android devices.

  • I want to transfer my web address away

To transfer out a web address, you will need to send the new provider your domain password, Authority code, or EPP code.

    •  Our Australian customers can retrieve it here.
    • Our New Zealand customers read more info here.
    • Codes for .com domains can be requested from us through email at support@championweb.com.au

Once you receive the domain password, you can initiate the transfer from the new Domain Host, and the transfer should happen automatically.

If you have a current Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 subscription, we recommend you not transfer, as it will disrupt your email services with us. Otherwise, if you are happy to cancel these services, please send us an email confirmation.

  • How to update my DNS / Web address Settings?

DNS Settings contain all your settings where you can add an A record, CNAME record, MX record, TXT record.

    1. Log in to your "Control Panel"
    2. Go to Web Address and click on settings
    3. Enter in the Host Name (you can leave as blank when you are required to add '@'
    4. Select the Type
    5. Enter the Content
    6. Save

The settings will now take 24 hours to reflect online.

  • I've just updated my DNS Settings but still can't see my website?

Due to security reasons, it takes 24-48 hours for a website to propagate online.

If it hasn't connected, then it usually means that the DNS records were incorrect. Please double-check for any spelling errors or 'server errors'.

Once correct, check the progress of your website connection at: https://www.whatsmydns.net/

  • How to connect my website to my domain name?

To connect your web address to a third-party website platform, you will need to add some web address settings. This will be given to you by the website platform.

If you have an existing Website Editor subscription, we will need to cancel it.

Add the A and CNAME records to your web address settings, and wait for 24 hours to connect.

Otherwise, you can also email the A and CNAME records to  support@championweb.com.au and we can then add those details for you.

  • My website is not working?

The first thing to check when your website is no longer online is to see if your web address has lapsed.

If your web address has expired, then your website will no longer be available. We can still renew your web address if it is still available.

Please email support@championweb.com.au to let us know how many years you would like to renew for.

  • My Web Address is expired, can I renew it?

If your Web Address is past 30 days overdue, the renewal link from your Control Panel will no longer work. If it is still available to register, we can send you a new invoice.

Please confirm the number of years you would like to renew for and we will send an invoice to support@championweb.com.au for manual processing.
